Acne in Orlando, FL

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions in the United States, affecting tens of millions of teens and adults every year. While many cases are considered mild and may be controlled with medication and a steady at-home cleaning program, some patients experience severe acne, which can lead to embarrassment and potential scarring. Acne typically presents as a combination of pimples, whiteheads, blackheads, and inflammation. Caused by a mix of clogged pores, dead skin cells, and bacteria, it is most often seen in teenagers but can affect adults well into their 40s. Acne most frequently shows up on the face, chest, and back. If you're suffering from chronic or severe acne, our team at Pure Skin Dermatology & Aesthetics can help. Using our vast skin care experience and the latest treatments, we can help you attain a clearer, more radiant complexion that you'll be excited to show off. To learn more about the causes of acne and the treatment options we offer, schedule a skin assessment at our Orlando, FL dermatology office.

Over-the-counter acne solutions might be effective for mild outbreaks, but they often fall short when it comes to treating severe acne. At Pure Skin Dermatology & Aesthetics, we offer advanced solutions that are designed to treat acne at the source. For some patients, we may recommend prescription treatments, such as Accutane (isotretinoin), topical creams and serums formulated with salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and retinoids. We also provide customized chemical peel treatments designed to clear oil and dead skin cells from your pores while refreshing your complexion. For more severe cases, we offer cutting-edge laser acne treatments to effectively destroy acne-causing bacteria while reducing redness and inflammation. No two patients are quite the same, so we'll start with a consultation and skin assessment before building out a custom acne treatment plan to enhance your complexion.

Acne flare ups can develop for many different reasons, and understanding the root cause is key to effective treatment. Hormonal acne is common during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause due to shifting hormone levels that increase oil production. Certain medications, including some forms of birth control, may also contribute to adult acne or persistent breakouts. Lifestyle factors such as chronic stress, poor sleep, and a diet high in processed foods can worsen inflammatory acne and clogged pores. Genetics may also play a role in who develops cystic acne or more severe blemishes. Once the underlying cause of your acne is identified, a personalized acne treatment plan can be created to support clearer, healthier skin and long-term acne control.

Acne symptoms can vary based on the type of acne you have and how severe it is. Some of the more common signs of acne are:

  • Raised red skin
  • Rough or crusty skin
  • Whiteheads and/or blackheads
  • Dark spots
  • Scarring
  • Pustules
  • Cysts

Dr Grayman is kind, professional, and knowledgeable in the treatment of complex skin conditions, particularly as it relates to skin conditions that affect certain ethnicities. I travel from Jacksonville, FL to see her because I trust her that much with my skin. It was horrendous with multiple problems, including ingrown hairs, scarring, acne, and uncontrolled oiliness before seeing her. I have seen a tremendous improvement since I began seeing her several years ago. Please see Dr. Grayman and Pure skin dermatology, you won’t be disappointed!

I travel all the way from London UK to see Dr Grayman. She’s literally the only dermatologist I have found in the last 10 years that truly understands skin of colour. I suffer from acne prone skin, every now and again I break out in the worst legions. I have seen various Harley street London Dr’s but frankly with little results. When things get very desperate, I reach out to Dr Greyman in Orlando to fix me! My skin seems to love her ‘Pure Skin’ range of products too. Thankfully, now I’m in town I have had my first chemical peel which has improved my texture. All that’s left is to tackle the hyperpigmentation. Looking forward to flawless skin by the end of my holiday.

Our expert team will work with you to determine the most effective option for your specific case.

Can my diet affect my acne?

While there is no definitive answer, it has been suggested that certain foods can trigger acne, such as dairy products and high-glycemic index foods. It's important to pay attention to what you eat and how it affects your skin to make informed decisions about your diet. Our team can provide recommendations to help manage acne and improve overall skin health.

Do I have to use prescription medication for acne treatment?

This ultimately depends on the severity of your condition. Mild cases may benefit from over-the-counter products, while moderate to severe cases may require prescription medication to effectively manage symptoms. Our staff in Orlando, FL, will evaluate your case and create a custom treatment plan that may include medication as well as other methods.
