Hyperpigmentation in Orlando, FL

Hyperpigmentation is the medical term for a condition that causes dark, patchy areas to appear on the skin's surface. Acne scars, sun spots, and melasma are all forms of hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation may show up anywhere on the body with patches varying in size, shape, and color. Unusual skin pigmentation is generally not a threat to your health, but you still may wish to have it removed for cosmetic reasons. At Pure Skin Dermatology & Aesthetics, we perform hyperpigmentation treatments using some of the most advanced techniques on the market, including PCA Skin Peels and the Harmony® XL PRO and Hybrid® systems from Alma. These treatments significantly reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation while promoting collagen production, resulting in a brighter, healthier complexion. If you struggle with how you look because of age spots, melasma, or other pigmentation issues, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our experienced skin care specialists. Reach out to our Orlando, FL practice to get started.

Hyperpigmentation treatments at Pure Skin Dermatology & Aesthetics are performed using light therapy, which has proven to be an effective solution for resurfacing and rejuvenating a variety of skin tones. Following your personal consultation, we'll develop a treatment plan that's right for your complexion. We often recommend a combination of treatments that includes topical or oral medications, medical-grade skin care products, sun protection, and in-office chemical peels or laser procedures.

Hyperpigmentation can occur as a result of genetics, sun exposure, pregnancy, or various skin conditions. Some of the symptoms of hyperpigmentation include:

  • Freckles
  • Patches that appear darker than the surrounding skin
  • Discoloration that shows up after an injury
  • Raised, dark patches of skin

Because there are so many skin conditions that are related to hyperpigmentation, a comprehensive skin examination at Pure Skin Dermatology & Aesthetics is recommended so our team can determine the cause of your skin discoloration and the most effective treatment.

Had acne since age 14 and by 22 had forgotten what my face looked like without it. Dr. Grayman started me on a regimen that cleared my skin in 3 months (including getting rid of my hyperpigmentation). My skin has literally never looked better and I get compliments on it constantly. Not to mention that the office is beautiful with very kind and helpful staff and Dr. Grayman herself is very efficient and knowledgable.

I travel all the way from London UK to see Dr Grayman. She’s literally the only dermatologist I have found in the last 10 years that truly understands skin of colour. I suffer from acne prone skin, every now and again I break out in the worst legions. I have seen various Harley street London Dr’s but frankly with little results. When things get very desperate, I reach out to Dr Greyman in Orlando to fix me! My skin seems to love her ‘Pure Skin’ range of products too. Thankfully, now I’m in town I have had my first chemical peel which has improved my texture. All that’s left is to tackle the hyperpigmentation. Looking forward to flawless skin by the end of my holiday.

Posted 11/07/25I waited until my last treatment before writing this review, just to be sure the results hold up. I’d been dealing with a hyperpigmentation area for over 3 years and I tried everything—(OTC products, prescriptions) and seen a few dermatologist. Nothing worked.Frustrated - one day while searching online, I came across Dr. Grayman and PureSkin Dermatology. This time, I specifically wanted to see a dermatologist familiar with my skin type and culture because, after several failed attempts with others, I figured maybe someone who truly understands skin like mine could actually help.At first, I was hesitant (as anyone would be), but I decided to schedule a consultation. After accessing my skin issue, Dr. Grayman immediately knew what kind of treatment would work best. I even said to her “If you’re absolutely confident about this treatment, I’ll move forward with you,” and she said without hesitation, “Yes, I am confident.” At that moment, I felt optimistic that I'm in good hands.Fast forward through 4 treatments—and wow! I’m super satisfied with the results. My skin in the problem area looked so much better. Dr. Grayman and her team have been nothing but professional, kind, and attentive before, during, and after every session. The ladies at the front desk are absolute sweethearts—super warm and welcoming, but still professional. The nurse assistants are just as great—very patient, friendly, professional and detail-oriented.Honestly, I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Grayman and her team. I 100% recommend PureSkin Dermatology if you’re looking for results and a staff that's professional, attentive and friendly. Hopefully I won’t need more treatments anytime soon, but if I ever do, this will always be my go-to spot. Hands down.Thank you to everyone at PureSkin! Sorry to readers for the long post, but I assure you this isn’t an insider review—just a grateful patient.

What Causes Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation happens when certain areas of your skin produce more melanin than surrounding tissue, leading to patches that appear darker than your natural tone. Common triggers include sun exposure, hormonal fluctuations, inflammation from acne or skin injuries, and certain medications. In sunny climates like Orlando, UV exposure is one of the biggest contributors, often worsening existing discoloration or bringing new spots to the surface. At Pure Skin Dermatology & Aesthetics, Dr. Grayman takes a closer look at the underlying cause of your hyperpigmentation before recommending treatment, since melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and sun spots each require a slightly different approach. Understanding what is driving your discoloration is the first step toward creating a personalized plan that supports clearer, more even-looking skin.

Can hyperpigmentation be prevented?

While some people may be genetically predisposed to developing hyperpigmentation, there are ways to prevent it from occurring. The most important step is to protect your skin from the sun by wearing SPF and avoiding prolonged UV exposure. Additionally, following a consistent skin care routine and avoiding harsh chemicals or irritants can help prevent dark spots.

How long does it take to see results from treatment?

The length of time it takes to see results from hyperpigmentation treatments varies depending on the severity of your condition and the method used. It could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to see significant improvement. At Pure Skin Dermatology & Aesthetics, we can provide a specific estimate based on your individual case.

Is hyperpigmentation treatment safe?

Hyperpigmentation treatments are generally considered safe when performed by a trained and experienced professional. However, as with any medical procedure, there are some potential risks and side effects. During a consultation in Orlando, FL, our staff will discuss these risks and make sure you understand these risks before moving forward.
